DNA Testing
November 3
The requirements by Genemark for DNA testing have changed. The Genemark laboratory will no longer accept hair samples for parentage and disease testing - other than Chondrodysplasis testing.
Hair samples are easily contaminated with dung or are wet which reduces the accuracy of the test results.
The preferred sample for testing is tissue, collected from the ear of the aimal with the tissue punch and pouch. This is quick, simple and painless for the animal and provides the laboratory with a sample of greater integrity than hair.
Forms, to order the tissue punch and sample pouches, can be found on www.lic.co.nz or by calling 0800 Genemark.
